About Us

ScienceABC.com was launched with the sole objective of finding and sharing fun and interesting science facts. We believe that Science is a fascinating and valuable area of study for people of all ages, and we’re not alone! This website is curated by a team of professionals who are passionate about Science. Our greatest hope is that the fun we have curating this content is the same for everyone who reads it.

Mission Statement

To quench the thirst of human curiosity about everything around us in the environment and the universe by explaining it in simple words.

The Story So Far

We have all had both good and bad teachers at various points in our lives. The good ones were those who could ignite our imagination and curiosity. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) as a field of education creates fear among many. But we believe that if told in a simpler way, it can be fascinating for one and all. This thought gave birth to ScienceABC.com in 2015. Since then, our mission has been to find interesting science questions and provide answers to them using proper scientific resources and journals. We hope that you find them useful and eye-opening! If you have any feedback or additional questions, you can write to us at admin@scienceabc.com

The Team

Abhishek Jain, the chief

Abhishek is a Chemical Engineer from IIT Bombay, one of the premier engineering schools in India and the world. He spent 10 years in the corporate world until reaching a point in life where he decided to find a greater purpose. A problem-solver by design, he started searching for areas he wanted to direct his energy. Education and Sustainable Living were two areas close to his heart, and in 2012, he started BijliBachao.com a website dedicated to nudging consumer behavior towards sustainability and energy-efficient living. However, his love for science education gradually drove him to start ScienceABC. He firmly believes that a good teacher is one who can make concepts simple for students to understand, thereby generating their curiosity to find out more.

Ashish Tiwari, content manager/physics and chemistry editor

Ashish is a Science graduate (Bachelor of Science) from Punjabi University (India). He spearheads the content and editorial wing of ScienceABC and manages its official Youtube channel. He’s a Harry Potter fan and tries, in vain, to use spells and charms (Accio! [insert object name]) in real life to get things done. He totally gets why JRR Tolkien would create, from scratch, a language spoken by elves, and tries to bring the same passion in everything he does. A big admirer of Richard Feynman and Nikola Tesla, he obsesses over how thoroughly science dictates every aspect of life… in this universe, at least.

John Staughton, language editor

John is a traveling writer, editor and publisher who earned his English and Integrative Biology degrees from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Urbana (USA). He is the co-founder of a literary journal, Sheriff Nottingham, and calls the most beautiful places in the world his office. On a perpetual journey towards the idea of home, he uses words to educate, inspire, uplift and evolve.

Salama Yusuf, biology editor

Salama is a Life Science graduate from the St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, who loves nothing more than discussing science. She writes and edits for the SciencABC website and YouTube channel. She also curates ScienceABC’s (super cool, science research and history filled) weekly newsletters. When not working, she’s mostly nerding out about some arcane science history fact (like the guy who discovered DNA, Friedrich Meischer, did not believe it held the genetic code!) or trying hard to study Japanese.

Hussain Kanchwala, video editor/staff writer

Hussain is an Electronic Engineer from University of Mumbai. He is a tech aficionado who loves to explicate on wide range of subjects from applied and interdisciplinary sciences like Engineering, Technology, FinTech, Pharmacy, Psychology and Economics. He also manages our second YouTube channel – ScienceABC 2.0

Satish Tawate, animator

Satish is the lead animator of the official Youtube channel of ScienceABC where he creates animated science stories. He has a Bachelors in Commerce degree from Mumbai University (India). He is keenly interested in graphic design and animation. In his free time, he doodles, binge watches movies, listens to music and reads novels.

Ketaki Bapat

Ketaki Bapat is a student of B.Tech (Cosmetic Technolgy) at Kamla Nehru Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur. Science has always intrigued her with her special interest being life sciences, biochemistry and psychology. During her free time, she enjoys watching sitcoms, reading mythological and historical books and playing with her mischievous pet - Shih Tzu.

Kavya Nambiar

Kavya has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala, India. She loves to read and draw in her spare time. A firm believer that a jack of all trades is better than a master of one. She wants to explore the world, learn new things, and write about them.

Aishwarya Ahuja

Aishwarya is a research scholar pursuing a PhD in the field of molecular neuroscience from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. She is an avid reader and a bird lover. She loves to sing and finds solace in music. She turns to writing to escape the monotony in life. She is a tad bit philosophical and is ever curious to understand where and how spirituality meets science.

Anand Menon

Anand has a MSc Physics degree NIT Surathkal (India), and is currently undertaking a research project on galaxy evolution. He is passionate about nature and structures of the universe, and hopes to call himself a cosmologist one day. He likes to explore various genres in music; however, he is a metal-head and his favorite bands are Bring Me The Horizon and Deftones. His other interests include swimming and taking road trips.

Mikhail Nazareth

Mikhail Nazareth has a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology from Christ University, Bangalore. He is currently pursuing his Master's of Marine Biology at James Cook University, Townsville, Australia. He loves exploring the wild and all the creatures in it. When he's not crawling through forest shrubberies or looking into tidepools, he's probably playing ultimate frisbee or jamming with his friends.

Apoorva Gopinath

Apoorva got her master’s degree in Zoology from the Central University of Kerala, India. She enjoys doing science and writing about it. She is happy to be part of any conversation on a spectrum of evolution to existentialism, except when she is having her alone time (during which she self-reflects or gathers tidbits for her aforementioned interactions).

Megha Mogarkar

Megha has done her Masters in Astrophysics from St. Xavier's, Mumbai with her subject of thesis being Particle Physics, so normalcy is the last thing you expect from her. She is an abject fan of horror and has the crazy part down in the term 'crazy scientist'. One day, she aims to have the scientist part covered as well.

Ruqqaiya Khan

Ruqqaiya Khan is an Environmental and Social Impact Analyst, with a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany from Christ University, Bangalore. She is hoping to build a career in marine sciences to turn the tide on ocean conservation. She's an avid traveler, on a mission to explore every nook and cranny of the world, oceanic trenches included.

Dr. Ron George

Dr Ron is an MBBS graduate from Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore. After gaining some experience in the department of General Surgery, he made the unconventional switch to neuroscience and stem cell research. He is currently working on a genetic disorder called Lowe Syndrome and is completing his Ph.D. in the same in NCBS, Bangalore. However, these are strictly Monday-Friday activities for him; he spends Saturdays dancing the night away and Sundays hunting down water bodies to jump in. With some dabbling in art and time kept aside for reading and writing, he intends to make people fall in love with science. He’s also on a mission to knit a sweater for his kitten.

Sanjana Kadur

Sanjana is a graduate student of biochemistry from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. She is in her element around dogs and on the basketball court. A sure-fire way to pique her interest is by talking about membrane biology. Being lactose-intolerant has never stopped her from consuming generous amounts of dairy, which perfectly sums up her gung-ho attitude towards life. Her "to-be-read" list is longer than her list of goals and ambitions.

Khadija Naz Safwi

Khadija is a post-graduate student pursuing her Master's in Physics from Jamia Millia Islamia, having completed her Bachelor's in Science from the University of Delhi. If one were ever to come across her, they could spot her donning bright colours on her eyes, possibly wearing cats in her ears, with an overfed tote bag weighing her down. Besides her academic interests which led her to this venture and to a master’s level education in theoretical physics, her love for the spoken and written word prompts her to be an editor for risky text messages and emails sent across all friend groups. She has the eyesight of a bat and the bone strength of a twig, but the aging of her body is balanced out by her naivety and ever-active tear duct. She looks forward to capturing interest with her words, instead of just her charm (read: lack of it) (she’s a Leo).

Sarah Hashmi

Sarah Hashmi has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from SAGE University, Indore. She is passionate about Mental Health and is also an animal lover who stands up for animal rights. She likes to socialize and meet new people.

Arushi Choudhary

Arushi holds a graduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Delhi. Ever since she was a kid, Arushi has loved books and reading has been an escapist experience for her. It was only natural that her love for books further manifested itself as a flair for writing and poetry. However, her one true love in life is Biology and she can never tire of the marvel that is the human body. When not studying or working, you can find her writing poetry, going on runs and watching the sunset!

Pranjali Bundela

Pranjali is pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Geology from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. She enjoys travelling to places and exploring new music. As a creative person, she likes to paint, but usually not on paper. Her keen interest lies in Earth Sciences & Wildlife Conservation. Her favourite pastime is hanging out with her four-legged companions.

Shweta Mishra

Shweta Mishra has completed her Master’s in Applied Psychology (Clincial Specialisation) from Mumbai University. She is a guest faculty for undergraduates in RD & SH National College, teaching Psychology. Since teaching and talking about Psychology wasn’t enough, she also spends time writing about it. Ira Choudhary

Ira Choudhary has a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Ashoka University. She is passionate and artistic. She spends her free time crocheting, baking, and writing fantasy stories. She wants to simplify psychology for people so they can see how relatable it actually is to their lives!"

Joshika Komarla

Joshika Komarla is a Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology graduate from St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore. Apart from being a full-time F1 and football fan, she’s also a budding ecologist on a mission to boop every plant and animal in the world. On any given day, you can find her annoying her dog by yelling “cat”, meowing, and running away.

Amogh Sachdeva

Amogh Sachdeva is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Technology in Computer Science from Delhi Technological University. He is a huge sports fan and spends most of his free time playing or watching sports. He’s a very talkative fellow and always has an anecdote or two to share.

Sameena

Sameena is a horticulture graduate from SKLTS Horticultural University, Hyderabad. Like any other girl caught with Korean fever, you can find her binge-watching K-dramas in her free time. And, if not, she is probably annoying her best friend with a new list of amazing facts. She spends much of her time answering people's questions about horticulture. No complaints though, since she loves introducing people to her version of the plant world!

Shreya Sethi

Shreya Sethi is currently a student at NALSAR University, Hyderabad. She likes to believe that she was born with a book in her hand and that she has subsequently only replaced it occasionally to suit her reading list. She also enjoys a good cup of tea as she watches a better sunset. She is passionate about history, arguably, the greatest story ever told

Ammar Safwi

Ammar is an undergraduate student pursuing B. Tech in Information Technology from Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. Apart from his academic interests, he has been heavily involved in debating, writing, and other literary activities at the district, state, national and international levels since his high school days. In his free time (and non-free time, if we're being honest), he can be found deciding what movie he's going to dissect next. Want to find a way to pass the next two hours? Say a word about anything ranging from religion to video games to video game development to film within a 50-meter radius of him.
